I thought when I finished this book, I was through writing. My editor thought otherwise and said I had to write something for the back cover to sort of sum up what the book was about. I guess that makes sense, and I figured it would be easy. It wasn't. Every time I tried to chop a forty page section down to two or three sentenses, it sounded stupid. Look The first section is about how my brother, Roy, and I tried to start a men's only, beer allowed, version of one of those PlastiQueen kitchenware parties. It didn't go well. There. See? Does that sound like a story you'd want to read? Maybe. And the second part, about how four buddies and I took a trip out to Vegas in a reconditioned, forty-year-old school bus. Lots of things happened, but I can't cut any of them down to just a few words. Okay, here's one When we pulled in to our very first overnight campsite, we had no idea we'd wake up in the morning, axle deep in.... No. I'm just not going to spoil it. Then in the third section, Tangee got a job and I wrote this book. There, right? Not fair. Look, buy this book and read it. Then email me and tell me how you would have squashed it all into two hundred and fifty words. Here's the address you can use BUCKandTANGEE@gmail.com Thanks, Buck

I bought this book on a whim on Christmas Eve. I was missing my sister who has lived in Europe for the past two decades, sad because our Chrismases together come at a great financial cost (I live in Texas), and even though we chatted earlier today, and ...Amazon let me have a teaser for this book, and I read it all in one sitting. This book has to be one of the sweetest stream of consciousness stories I've ever read. First, the writer starts out just telling about his life, exactly like the title, Buck & Tangee: Things that Happened. The writing style appears amateurish and folksy, and it is clear that Buck is a regular guy who adores his wife, even though he shares with the reader that she is not the sharpest pencil he's ever met, but she's definitely the prettiest of all the available colours. As the story progresses, Buck's writing style seems to improve, although it is still a bit rough, perhaps here and there, with the occasional smoothness of a well-leveled, highly polished, vintage oak floor. Finally, as Tangee tries desperately to help her husband understand who she is, he feels the lightning strike him. And what a lovely experience for him, and for the reader. Could be fiction, could be true, and, hopefully, it will be as delightful to other readers as it has been for me.Product details

Buck Tangee Things that Happened A Love Story Sort Of Mr Jon Zech 9780983826194 Books Reviews
The novel "Buck & Tangee Things That Happened" employed simple language and humor to create an easy read. The story, light on plot and characterization, is mildly disjointed by some unrelated short pieces thrown in, but has a sweet philosophical finish.
East book to dive into and enjoy. Great characters and story.
Spread the word, this new author has talent
I recommend to anyone, Buck & Tangee Things that Happened A Love Story ... Sort Of
I can relate to some instances realized by the characters, the instances I have no background of are explained in a comfortable and friendly manner. Reading this book was like talking to a friend. Good Job Jon!
Think Jerry Seinfeld meets Garrison Keillor. This book is funny in a dry, Midwestern kind of way. The characters are finely drawn and very human, likable with or even because of their foibles. The structure of the book reminded me a lot of "Olive Kittredge." It's more a series of stories involving the characters than one huge over arching plot. I liked that about it. It was easy to read a bit, put it down and pick it back up again without spending fifteen minutes trying to reorient myself in the plot. I particularly liked the last section. I highly recommend this book. Well worth the $3.00 cover price.
Jon Zeck takes you on a merry romp through the back roads of half the American continent in this deliciously funny tale, and also through some of the back roads of relationships and learning to live with what we gain AND what we lose.
Great fun and thought provoking at the same time. I'll read it again, just for the fun of it!
What a fun and entertaining book. This book is about a series of adventures undertaken by Buck and Tangee, a married couple who live in a quirky but oh so real world. It will make you laugh but it's also a thought provoking look at a "normal" marriage. Mr. Zech knows his way around relationships. His insightful and thoroughly delightful depiction of Buck and Tangee's marriage and their relationships with friends will have you smiling all the way through the book. These are people you'd love to have as neighbors. I hope there are more stories coming soon!
The cover grabbed me, and the description inspired a what the heck. Glad I did. Utterly delightful. The characters - the names!, the situations. Very, very funny, but also charming. Mr. Zech is a great story teller, one of the finest I've seen in a while. Grab it. If the Flamingo caught your attention....grab it. You won't be disappointed.
